Many successful franchisees never even planned on running their own business, but ended up doing so after they discovered how the franchising business model could provide the answer to their personal and professional goals.
Toronto-based Liana Ling, for instance, became a WSI Digital Marketing franchisee three years ago to gain more control over her work schedule, like Perdomo. After spending more than a decade as a lawyer for a bank, she left her profession and followed her entrepreneurial spirit to become a business owner.
Although she was certain she wanted to pursue a career as a full-time entrepreneur, Ling was wary at first about owning a business, given her only work experience was as a lawyer. After thoroughly researching WSI?s business model?which focuses heavily on providing support to franchisees, with personal coaches, electronic learning (e-learning) courses and training workshops?she decided to take the plunge into business ownership.
?I became a franchisee because I wanted more control over my time and schedule than I had when I was a lawyer,? Ling says ?It took a long time to feel confident enough to take the plunge into business ownership, but now that I?ve done it, I?ve finally reached the work-life balance that I always craved and could never find as a lawyer.?
