Mike DeWine issued his report! foster care - Adoption.com Forums

Ohio's Mike DeWine issued his report! foster care!

Yeah! I'll give you the link if you like - but it looks like we've been heard, at last.

What two suggestions would you make..... doable suggestion??? The advisory group has 20+ people and hopefully they look on the forum.
Mine,
1. Give kin all the tools that they need to become amazing and permanent kinship care parents. MORE training, where to go for financial support/free carseats and other items, the types of rule breaking that could easily get the child removed from them, special expectations, etc.

2. Make a deadline for kin and fictive kin to come forward and be approved. I don't know the best number of days. 30? 60? 90? 120? (The notion that kin can come forward from 3 states over, after a YEAR and obtain guardianship of a baby that the FC has known since the babe was a premie in the hospital does not feel like what is best for the child.)

3. Tighten rules and increase consequences on agencies who cause FPs to feel fearful of voicing their concerns and asserting their rights or who retaliate against those who do. Add to preservice training information on who the FP can contact OUTSIDE the agency to voice a concern.

4. Add to preservice class: detailed and specific information on how to communicate with the judge, track facts in a way that is beneficial to the court, the process for being heard at a hearing, etc.
