Sixteen-year-old Kasey Burleson died in a fatal car crash in 2005. Now,her family continues her passion for giving through Kasey's Gift.
The Thomas Worthington High School student had a history of giving that dates back to her childhood.
"She wanted to buy somebody else presents, so her mom would take her to fire stations, that was more important than getting presents herself," said Kasey?s father Mark Burelson.
After Kasey?s untimely death, the family started Kasey's Gift, a program that accepts donations from the community to buy presents to give them to groups like Firefighters 4 Kids in Kasey?s honor.
"While we will never be the same, it eases some of the pain to do something positive, something she would have done, and one of the things she is proud of, I'm sure of what we are doing," said Mark.
On Saturday, the family plans to deliver hundreds of toys to the Firefighters 4 Kids toy drive at the NBC4 studios.
"It is fun to honor Kasey. For a few hours or a few days each fall, the least we can do to honor Kasey," said Kasey?s uncle, Scott Burleson.
The family hopes her spirit will inspire others to give.
"I think that is the strength of Firefighters 4 Kids and channel 4. The people handing out one, two, or three presents," said Mark.
